The last year has shown us that the movement for abortion access in the United States is squarely in a new chapter – and now, as we tackle those challenges with clear eyes, The Brigid Alliance is pleased to welcome Serra Sippel aboard the team as our new Interim Executive Director. 

Serra brings with her considerable executive experience leading high-impact work to advance gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, and social justice, both in the U.S. and globally.  We are confident that under her leadership, we will continue to thrive in our mission to make abortion borderless, burden-free, and accessible to all. 

Prior to this role, Serra served as the president of CHANGE (Center for Health and Gender Equity) for 15 years, where she worked on bold policy and advocacy campaigns for sexual and reproductive health and rights and led the organization over a period of significant growth. In 2021, Serra co-founded Fòs Feminista, an international alliance for sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice (SRHRJ).  

Serra will serve in this role following the departure of Odile Schalit, The Brigid Alliance’s founding Executive Director, who has been a visionary leader in the development of best practices for supporting individuals forced to travel long distances for abortion care. Over the past five years Odile has skillfully and compassionately shepherded the organization through a constantly shifting legal and logistical landscape. The entire team at The Brigid Alliance thanks Odile for her service.  

The Brigid Alliance will soon start the process of a robust search for a permanent Executive Director, casting a wide net to reach a diverse group of candidates, with deep experience in social justice and in reproductive health and rights. We are excited to move forward in this next chapter as an organization, and to continue supporting clients who face significant barriers to accessing abortion care in the United States.
